what is flagrance?

Fla´gran`cy . The condition or quality of being flagrant; atrocity; heinousness; enormity; excess.

Flagrance is good! Once upon a time Barra and David decided that if we were to create our own fragrance, we would call it 'Flagrance'. The idea being that it would be flagrantly expensive and flagrantly nice smelling. Well, we don't know how to develop, manufacture, and market a fragrance, so we have made a blog instead. Deal with it!

The Essence of Flagrance

Thanks to Luke for spontaneously making this picture. He truly understands the meaning of Flagrancy.

Flagrant Communism!

Without meaning to start a trend, I couldn't resist posting about communism again.

The above picture is from Chongqing, China, where a woman resisted pressure from developers and government officials to allow them demolish her home. She claimed that the compensation offered was below market prices. Unfortunately, this hasn't stopped them from demolishing the 280 other buildings that once surrounded her house, excavating the site, and therefore leaving her unable to access her property. One of the sad things about the whole saga is the fact that the only reason the woman has even been able to resist for so long is the fact that she has political family connections, and the media interest that the story has gotten. According to a quote in the NY Times:
“If it were an ordinary person, they would have hired thugs and beat her up,” said a woman dressed in a green sweater who was drawn by the throng. “Ordinary people don’t dare fight with the developers. They’re too strong.”

After more than two years of battling, the house has since been demolished as the woman finally accepted a new offer of compensation which has allowed her to buy a similarly sized apartment in a different area of the city.

In the past month
"...the National People’s Congress passed a historic law guaranteeing private property rights to China’s swelling ranks of urban, middle-class homeowners, among others. Some here attributed Ms. Wu’s success to that, as well as her knack for generating publicity."

China's innovative integration of communism and capitalism is bound to lead to problems such as private property rights etc. But this is an example of the kind of flagrant corruption that is endemic in every communist system. Even though communism is supposed to benefit the people, a citizen in a communist system has nearly no civil rights. In urban China, it is a case of Chinese people being constrained by communist laws while being exploited by a capitalist system. Civilians can get bullied into accepting shitty compensation so that a PRIVATE developer can build high density condominiums to SELL and PROFIT from.

I'm not naive enough to believe that a similar case can't happen in a capitalist country, and of course not all capitalist countries are democracies, but I just feel there is an element of deceit in the Chinese system, and I don't really like it.

I'd like to know what others think.

Flagrant Football

I'm sure most of you will have seen it but how could I NOT post about this?!

Manchester United 7 - 1 Roma

This game was the second leg of the Champions League quarter final. In the first leg United lost to Roma 2-1, so who could have predicted that the second leg would be an exhibition of such footballing flagrancy! Uniteds biggest win in Europe since the 1950's. Romas biggest loss in Europe. Biggest win ever in a European quarter-final.

And I have to say, the quality of the goals was pretty excellent too. See for yourself....

Entourage

Entourage
Some of you guys may have heard me talk about this TV show Entourage recently. Anna had been telling me about it for ages, but I only started watching it in the last few days and now I'm fucking hooked!

Entourage is about an up and coming A-list actor and his 3 best friends who work for him and live off of him. Its really really funny, I cannot understand why no channel is showing it over here. The cast are all cool, but Jeremy Piven and Kevin Dillon are just fucking hilarious.

Whats cool is that in real life Kevin Dillon is Matt Dillon's brother and his character in Entourage is the older brother of the movie star, so there are loads of semi-inside jokes about how shit he is compared to his brother.

There is a guest celebrity in nearly every episode, the women in the show are usually incredibly hot, and the show is a good example of how go about living a truly flagrant lifestyle. I can't think of a reason why you wouldn't watch this, so just go and fucking do it!

You can easily watch all the episodes here: http://www.tv-links.co.uk/show.do/1/28

*NOTE* There is a continuous story so start at the beginning.

Flagrant Fishing.

I dont know if you know this, but i love Bill Dance. He is a fishing presenter on his show Bill Dance Outdoors, But he is no ordinary T.V presenter, heck, he's no ordinary person, because what you don't know about Bill Dance is that he is the unluckiest person alive and it just so happens that we get to see his misfortunes caught on camera time and time again. I'm sure that his own clumsiness plays a small part in his accidents, but even my friend Ronan can testify that you can't be clumsy all the time, you have to be unlucky too. Here's a small taste of his work:

Its hard to find any normal clips of Bill's show on Youtube because when you type in Bill Dance, only a large list of bloopers will come up. Go ahead, try it!

Here is a Compilation of his bloopers (the snake bit is a testament to his absolute lack of luck), enjoy:

Seriously, who would've thought that fishing could be interesting, well Bill makes it interesting heres more:

Thats right, a goddamn tree fell on him!

See what I mean? They are all like this, Here's another (unfortunately some idiots decided that the clips weren't gold enough themselves they had to ad stupid sound effects. Oh well:

I would love to shadow Bill Dance for a day, he gets more popularity for his mistakes then he does for his profession. The man is an accidental comedic genius. I'm sorry that there were so many video posts just in this blog, there's just too many Bill Dance clips that I like, check him out on Youtube for even more of his talents. Bill Dance is his name, Flagrant MisFortunes are his game.

Flagrant Floorshow.

Korea, where do I start. What a country! We never really get to see what goes on inside North Korea, and so we suspect the worst. Recently I found out exactly what Kim Jong IL has been up to and it is far from threatening, its possitively Flagrant.

100,000 North Koreans have been training for the last year to perform at the Arirang Festival (The Mass Games). This is a Flagrant display of Culture at its best. It is also a rare time when foreign visitors are allowed into the country. Thousands of performers hold coloured placards to create and immense back drop which looks amazing, while these Human Pixels operate, more performers...... um....perform an amazingly choreographed dance. This is what Totalitarian states should be really used for. Take that you lousy capitalists.

Here is a clip of the show live (nice camera work...however, I'm sure that if camera operator had been caught they would cut off his hands just as a precaution):

And here is the Official Government TV Advertisement:

I would probably be too crap at being a pixel, my excellent fighting skills would come in handy for the fight-dancing. People can pull together to do some truely amazing things when you scare them enough to do it. haha, just kidding, I'm sure that all of the performers consented 100%.

Interesting Theory

While reading an article forcasting a further fall in the value of the U.S. Dollar in 2007, I stumbled across the following theory regarding the invasion of Iraq, and possible future invasion of Iran:

Chapman's Dec. 30 newsletter documented that the international move away from the dollar has already begun:...

....Iran's switch to euros is the greatest threat yet to dollar supremacy. The usage of the euro is now universal in Iran and it will spread to other Islamic oil-producing countries as well. The share of dollars as a percentage of OPEC foreign reserves has fallen from 67 percent to 65 percent in the first half of 2007.

Iran's decision to hold only Euros may prompt a U.S. decision to launch a pre-emptive attack, Chapman speculated, with the public argument being Iran's pursuit of nuclear weapons in defiance of the U.N. Security Council.

"Saddam Hussein signed his death warrant," Chapman argued, "when he got the U.N. to agree that he could hold his oil-for-food reserves in euros. Ahmadinejad appears determined to go down the same path."

Is this a further example of international flagranomics at play? Indubitably!
